This is a lovely moss stitch, simple pattern for baby mittens that are adorable, actually stay on their chubby little hands, and they are reversible!
Mossy Baby Mittens
Size – infant/baby
Materials – Punta Yarns Mericash Hand Painted, color way hp76, 1 skein
- #7/4.5mm double point needles
- #5/3.75 double point needles
Gauge – 4 sts/ 1 inch
- K = knit
- P = purl
- M1 = make one
- K2tog = knit two stitches together
- P2tog = purl two stitches together
On size 5 needles, cast 24 stitches on 3 needles (8,8,8) and join in a circle.
K1P1 for 2.5 inches, creating the wrist of the mittens.
Then switch to your larger needles
*k3 M1* repeat to the end of the row. You should end up with 32 stitches on your needles.
Begin the following pattern:
Row 1 – *K1 P1*, repeat to end of row
Row 2 – *K1 P1*, repeat to end of row
Row 3 – *P1 K1*, repeat to end of row
Row 4 – *P1 K1*, repeat to end of row
Repeat rows 1-4 until you have 6 inches from cast on edge.
Then *K2tog P2tog* repeat this pattern until you have 4 stitches left. Cut yarn, leaving 6 inches of tail. Weave tail through live stitches and pull snug. Tie off and weave in any loose ends.
Put them on your baby’s wittle bitty, chubby wubby hands and say “Awwwwww!!”
