canine hip dysplasia

Have any of you worked supportively with hip dysplasia? Suki is probably ~6 years old and seems to be a little tender to the touch in her hips. She still moves around like a puppy, but if I would like to nip this thing in the bud and give her some good joint support in case she is developing dysplasia. I am thinking… similar herbs to those I would use with arthritis… anti inflammatoris, anti oxidents, fish oils, glucosamine chondroitin… what else?

  1. I’d second the glucosamine-chondroitin, combined with anti-inflammatory herbs, and watch her weight – the lighter she is the less load her hip will have to deal with.

  2. A good friend has had wonderful success with the glucosamine-chondroitin in her 13yo retriever – I have to say definately try that.

  3. My spaniel cross has a touch of arthritis and we’ve been using glucosamine chondroitin since she was six, along with some fish oil capsules. She is doing well still at 9; she and I both would do better if we lost some weight!

  4. Hey Leslie!

So far we have been using a glucosamine/chondroitin mix, turmeric, and fish oils. Suki loves the gravy we make with it. I see no signs of hip problems, but the vet said she thought she felt it??? We let Suki run free on the land this past weekend and she looked more like a one year old and not a 6 ye
