Here are the pictures from the surgery. Some are graphic and bloody, so don’t look if you have a ‘weak stomach’. Seriously!! They are graphic!
Here you can see the hole at the tip of her canine, and the pus around the gum from the infection in the bone.
They have pulled back the gum to expose the bone, release the tooth and drain the infection
Here’s the tooth. See the brown area at the end? That is where the root has started rotting because of the infection. The bone and tooth were being eaten away.
Here’s her mouth after. They’ve sutured the hole closed.
Today is day 3 post surgery and she is doing fantastic! She eats (wet food) without a problem, is her bouncy self, and most of the swelling has gone. And you know what? All of this… the medication, the IV’s, the monitoring, The anesthesia, the teeth cleaning, the x-rays, the surgery, the full day at the vet… all of it was under $600!! This kind of surgery for a human would be thousands! I have to say, I love this vet!!
wow. that is a reasonable price considering the amount of work and time done.
that tooth is HUGE. did you keep it? (i’m gross like that, i’d probably make it into a pendant or something).
🙂 Yes, I did keep it! One it’s dry I’ll try to buff it up a little. I thought about making it into a pendant too 🙂
Well, you two are just sick…a pendant…heh
Make sure you post a pic of the finished product! 🙂
I’m so glad Suki’s doing well post-surgery — and it’s great that your vet was able to make such extensive oral surgery so affordable. A great vet is worth his or her weight in gold!
This is the tooth that was pulled from my mouth last week…

It did not hurt at all. At least not me. The dentist hurt his wrist trying to pull it out. I tried to tell him that he should let me help him but he refused. Oh, did I mention that I had no anesthesia for the procedure. I am bad-ass like that.
Wow Chris! You had some serious plaque and disease on that tooth! Do you not brush your teeth? UGH! Good thing he pulled it or you’d have some serious diseases in your head… or is that already a problem??
