Progress on the house has been a little slow this past week. We got snowed in and no one could make it up our drive, and Kaia was ill this weekend. It’s also been bone chilling cold! But, I got out there and sealed and caulked the tub today. It looks fancy!!! All the window trim is up and the stairs will get finished this week (temporary steps come out, real treads and risers go in.) Then the upstairs floor and trim can be finished and the Master bedroom will be done!!! So, we could potentially move some stuff in there, just for a little extra elbow room.
Two of the stones in our new soapstone wood stove have cracked and I’m having a hell of a time getting them replaced. Our local stove store seems to have gotten stupid over night now that we want to replace something and not buy it. I’ve been trying to get one stone replaced since mid-dec. and the other stone broke this week. Anyone else have broken stones with soap stone stoves?
Wow! Orange happens to be my favorite color, and that looks great! When all the snow and ice is gone we will walk up and see it in person.
The tile is gorgeous!
I have not had a soapstone break in 28 years of using our Hearthstone. However, I do know they are “soft” stone. How did yours break? From the heat or from something hitting the soapstone? I would hope your dealer will replace the stone quickly. They are simple to remove and re-install.
Please keep us informed of your situation. I am planning on buying a Hearthstone for a project I am working on for our local school district (a 900 sq. ft. Cordwood Warming House) and I certainly would bring this up to the company if they don’t give you some satisfaction.
Well, we followed the ‘break in’ rules and did a bunch of slow, cold fires. But ~ 1 week after the first fire, we noticed a hairline crack all the way through on a side stone. Then last week, we noticed another one on the other side. The problem we’ve been having is with the local stove store. Hearthstone got back to me in one day when I emailed them about it. So, if I don’t hear back from the stove store soon, I will go directly to Hearthstone. The stove is under warranty, so hopefully they will replace the stone.
What is the name of the local stove store?
My word!!! That is going to be a beautiful bathroom.
I enjoy seeing the progress on your home. Wish I could do the same for my family.
Take care,
Amy
