Across The Universe and a giveaway!!

I have something to admit.  I really like Young Adult (YA) Fiction.  And though most ‘young adults’ would probably consider me ancient, I have no problem what so ever reading ‘their’ books!  Golden Compass – Loved it!  Harry Potter  – BIG fan!  Just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – fantastic!  So, needless to say, I have been seriously looking forward to the release of Across The Universe, by Beth Revis.

I met Beth a few months ago at a writer’s schmooze.  She spoke about the journey she went on to get her book published.  She is such a sweet, honest, and funny lady! (And her story gives me hope that maybe my book will be out there on the shelves one day.)

Here’s an interview with Beth about the book and the ship that carries her heroes.

And if you check here at io9 between 11:11 am and 11:11 pm on 1/11/11 you will get an exclusive peak at an 111 page excerpt from the book!

Very soon you should be able to explore the ship.

  1. Teaching high school keeps me into young adult books. My favorites recently have been The Hunger Games series and Mathilda Savitch. Love the Star Girl books too.

  2. Hi,

I read a lot of the YA books too 🙂 They are easy too read, esp when I’m tired, but still need a couple of pages before I can go to sleep. And best of all, my little young adult in my house reads them too and I love to discuss the books with her!
So, for now my favorite YA book is “The world as we know it” by Susan Beth Pfeffer. It’s quiet scary and I read it before my daughter had a chance. I wasn’t sure, I want her to read this… For the longest time as I was reading this, I had the urge to run out and buy, buy, buy cans and boxes of food to store. To get my children, to have everyone close by.

Another book I love, it’s still not out in english though, I hope it gets translated soon, is called “Erebos”. It is an excellent YA book, but one, that adults enjoy too, esp. if they are into computer games. It’s about a computer disk that is distributed secretly in school and has a game on it. And everyone who gets it gets addicted to the game. Hey, who wasn’t there yet? But then the game takes over into real life and it’s harder and harder to distinguish between real life and computer game. So, look out for that one, once it gets out in english.

  3. I really got into YA fiction this year! I think my favorite would have to be the Hunger Games trilogy, by Suzanne Collins. I also finally enjoyed all 7 Harry Potter books, and wondered why it took me so long to pick them up in the first place! Now I’m hooked and on the lookout for my next YA vice!

  4. Ohhhhh, how I love YA, especially paranormal YA. I’m not sure I can pick just ONE though. My favorites are:

The Demon’s Lexicon and The Demon’s Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

And recently I’ve loved me some Vampire Academy series. Delish.

  5. My favorite YA book is Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. I could read it over and over again! (and I have!). Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

  6. i’m not sure i could pick just 1 ya favorite. i like reading them over adult books because they are a quick read and time is usually not on my side when it come to leisure reading. some of my favorites were:

life as we knew it (there are actually 3 in this series, i liked 1 and 3 the best, 2 was not as well written)

the heir of seven waters series

wise child, juniper and colman (3 separate books in a series)

  7. My favorite book in that category is definitely “The Dream Stealer” by Gregory Maguire. At least today it is…

I remember the snowed in joys of WNC fondly. Now, in Montana, there are no excuses for being ‘snowed in’ unless the amount on the ground is phenomenal… 🙂

  8. I recently read Eli the Good (the first young adult novel by Silas House) and really enjoyed it. Also The Underneath, which I thought was beautifully written, the Harry Potter books, and anything by Kate diCamillo (I loved The Magician’s Elephant).

  9. I love the Twilight Series. And Harry Potter (I’m going to the west coast exhibition of the Harry Potter exhibit on Friday!!). And His Dark Materials. Looking forward to a chance to win a new title!! <3

  10. My favorite YA book is “The Giver.” Awesome. It’s in my keep collection on the bookshelf.

  11. Hello! I’m embarrassed to admit it but, although I thoroughly enjoyed the Harry Potter series, I obsessed over the Twilight series. Ok, there it is, in print for everyone to see. 🙂 I am grateful for the suggestions of others and added them to my library list!! Thanks!

  12. I also read youth books sometimes. This year I read The Hunger Games series and liked the first two, The Mysterious Benedict Society and Twilight Series. Please enter me in the giveaway. You can reach me at knechtslodge@yahoo.com.
    Blessings
    Diane
