Lots going on with the house… Many pictures below
Toby put in the stove pipe for our wood stove. It goes through the bedroom upstairs, so we had to frame it in with a little box to meet code. (Toby looks pretty intimidating with the drill gun in his hands, doesn’t he 🙂
We framed out more windows. We only have one more to go. Yes, this one here will have two triangles together to make a larger triangle. Cool, eh??
We finished the stairs late last night. Yahoo! No more ladder! Suki loves it! She ran up the stairs and jumped out the window and ran around on the roof. Silly dog! Right now, the stairs just have scrap wood on them. Once the house is close to done, we will put on the real oak treads and risers. That way, we don’t damage them while we are working.
We had a cordwood party today and got lots done! Unfortunately, we ran out of our lime putty to mix into mortar. But, we had a blast and made good progress!
This wall will be in the middle of our living room.
This wall is in our dining room
This one is part of our kitchen… where the stove will go. I love the way the blue bottle catches the light!!
Oh, my gosh the house is becoming so lovely! I also like how the light catches the blue bottle.
it is coming along! the stairs and walls look great.
the walls will dazzle when all the bottles are in and the sun shines through them.
what will the interior walls be made of? any fun finishes for them?
So, the interior wall will be sheet rock. There is a local paint company here that makes earth based paints. I may look into using those if they aren’t too expensive.
Maria,
My dad is a conservator and has a wonderful old recipe for milk paint, if that would be something you would be interested in. Make paint the way they used to…milk, natural ingredients to make the colors…
Mary
I would love it!!
Do you know how well it stands up to daily wear and tear??
Thanks!!
I’m SO loving the cordwood progress…just can’t wait for the next installment of pictures!
I included your blog on an award list of Bloggers for Positive Global Change. Thanks so much for such a great blog and for sharing your journey…such a pleasure to read!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! I never feel like I’m doing enough to make a change… that is a great privilege!
What size studs did you use for the triangular window?
Do you mean the buck? The window buck is 2 rough cut 2×8’s (the walls are 16 inches deep). The rest of the wood is 2×4, but it’s not structural. It’s just floating the window in the right place and the cord wood is built up around it.
