I’ve found this beetle in my garden and I’ve never seen anything like this. I thought I had a bunch of honey bees around already, but when I looked closer, it was a brown beetle. It would fly around, land on the garden soil or straw and burrow a little way in, then fly out again. Maybe it is laying eggs? It is similar in size and shape to a June Bug, but it’s back is almost like brown camoflage. Anyone know what this is?
Hi-guess what? I am an entomologist! Are you sure it was a beetle and not a “stinkbug”? I’ll look it up tonight–I have several beetle guides. It was roundish and had a “hard” outer shell like a ladybug? Or was it somewhat pointed with a “shield-like” back?
Oh, I love finding and trying to ID bugs! Sometimes it’s very difficult though 🙂
Yay! An entomologist on my blog! That’s very helpful.
Nope, it’s definitely not a stink bug. It looks very much like a “June Beetle” but, not shiny and the back really does look like brown camoflage. That’s the only way I know how to describe it. Oh, and it sounds like a bee buzzing around
