DO NOT USE SERGEANT’S GOLD FLEA AND TICK PRODUCTS!!

My sweet cat Max is at the vet for a reaction to Sergeant’s Gold flea drops. He’s never had flea problems because he’s an indoor cat. But yesterday I noticed a bunch of fleas on him. I ran out to get something because he was starting to pull his hair out and scratch like crazy. I wish I’d listened to my gut and not used it… the ingredients seem so toxic. But I said, “I’m sure he’ll be fine. Lots of people use this stuff.” Well, this morning he was having a neurotoxic reaction with muscle spasms and shaking! The vet thinks he’ll be okay, but it will take a day or two for him to recover. She said she’s seen reactions like this before, fairly frequently!!  Why is crap like this on the market????!!!  Poor Max is on Valium and muscle relaxants while he waits it out!! 🙁

  1. I used to work at a vet hospital and we always told people Sargent’s ANYTHING doesn’t belong on pets, it is horrible, toxic stuff. Unfortunately, it’s just not a regulated industry the way human medication is. I used to tell people the only possible use for their products if they had already bought them would be to put them inside a vacuum cleaner bag to kill stuff there (back when there were vac cleaner bags!) So sorry about your cat, hope for a speedy recovery and thanks for spreading the word! So many of our clients would ignore our warnings thinking we only wanted to sell more $$ products, it’s sad.

  2. Poor Max…hope he is better soon. We only use frontline–it’s pricey but it is very effective.

  3. Feel better Maxie! I feel like we use solid gold on the dogs now, lol. Since they caught mange mites from the local foxes this past winter they use Revolution now – $$$$ but it does treat heartworm, fleas, ticks, mosquitos, and mange mites….

  4. so sorry to hear about your cat. i work for a vet, and can tell you the ONLY flea products i would use would be from the office (ie frontline). i cant even TELL YOU how many people have had their pets have reactions from the over the counter stuff. My hubby is a manager of a grocery store..and i have been screaming at him for years to have that stuff TAKEN OFF THE SHELF! Hope your kitty is feeling better soon…
